Hunger Relief

According to Feeding America, nearly 40,000 individuals are food-insecure in Lancaster County. The USDA defines food insecurity as “a lack of consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life.” We recognize this, and the importance of providing nutritious foods to those who would otherwise go without. Individuals cannot put in the work to get out of poverty if their nutritional needs are not met. Community Action’s Gathering Place is a soup kitchen that provides a hot, nourishing evening meal to those who are homeless, near-homeless, or otherwise food-insecure in Lincoln each year. In 2025 we served over 55,000 meals. Our Healthy Food Access Program addresses childhood food insecurity through the provision of hot, healthy meals to children living in Lincoln's lowest income neighborhoods.
