Hunger Relief

According to Feeding America, 41,510 individuals are food-insecure in Lancaster County. The USDA defines food insecurity as “a lack of consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life.” We recognize this, and the importance of providing nutritious foods to those who would otherwise go without. Individuals cannot put in the work to get out of poverty if their nutritional needs are not met.   Community Action’s Gathering Place is a soup kitchen that provides over 27,000 hot, nourishing  evening meals to those who are homeless, near-homeless, or otherwise food-insecure in Lincoln each year.  The Gathering Place was founded in 1982 by six individuals from Lincoln, and has been operating as a program of Community Action since 1997.
