Early Head Start Volunteer

Description: Learn all aspects of the Early Head Start program while supporting the Early Head Start Family Advocates and staff.

Skills & Qualifications: Good people skills; ability and desire to work with diverse children and families; excellent organizational skills.

Responsibilities include: Childcare, support male / parent involvement, data entry, home visit support and special outings.

Time Details: Office hours are Monday - Friday 8:00 - 5:00 p.m.

Minimum Age Requirement: 19 years old

Childcare during Policy Council Meetings

Description: Childcare for Head Start children that have parents attending a Head Start Policy Council meeting.

Skills & Qualifications: Interest in caring for young children. Must be sensitive and have the ability to work with people of different cultures, nationalities, and religions.

Responsibilities include: Provide childcare while assisting with activities for children during Policy Council meetings.

Time Details: 4th Monday of every month 4:30 - 7:30 p.m.

Minimum Age Requirement: 16 years old

Childcare during Parent Committee meetings

Description: Childcare for Head Start Child Development Center Parent Committee.

Skills & Qualifications: Interest in caring for young children. Must be sensitive and have the ability to work with people of different cultures, nationalities, and religions.

Responsibilities include: Provide childcare while assisting with activities for children during Parent Committee meetings.

Time Details: 3rd Thursday of every month 4:30 - 6:30 p.m.

Minimum Age Requirement: 16 years old

Head Start Teacher Assistant

Description: Assist Head Start classroom teacher.

Skills & Qualifications: Interest in caring for young children. Must be sensitive and have the ability to work with people of different cultures, nationalities, and religions.

Responsibilities include: Assist teachers with preparation and implementation of lesson plans with children.
Time Details: Center is open Monday - Thursday 7:00 - 5:30 p.m.

Minimum Age Requirement: 16 years old

Computer Learning Lab Assistant

Description: Assist in teaching computer classes.

Skills & Qualifications: Proficient in Microsoft Office (2007). Must be sensitive and have the ability to work with people of different cultures, nationalities, and religions.

Responsibilities include: Facilitate classes by answering student questions. Assist in teaching computer classes and grading students' work.

Time Details: Office hours are Monday - Friday 8 - 5:00 p.m.
Minimum of 10 hours per week required.
Minimum Age Requirement: 18 years old

English as a Second Language (ESL) classes

Description: Teach ESL classes.

Skills & Qualifications: Must be sensitive and have the ability to work with individuals of different cultures, nationalities, and religions.

Responsibilities include: Planning, preparing, and teaching English as a Second Language classes.

Time Details: Monday - Friday 8:00 - 12:00 p.m. or
1:00 - 4:00 p.m.
Minimum of 2 months; 6 hours per week

Minimum Age Requirement: 19 years old

GED Tutor

Description: Help students acquire skills necessary to pass the General Education Development (GED) exams.

Skills & Qualifications: Skills in reading, writing, and math required. Experience in education and or teaching preferred. Must be sensitive and have the ability to work with individuals of different cultures, nationalities, and religions.

Responsibilities include: Planning, preparing, and assisting with teaching classes.

Time Details: Classes held:
Monday: 9:00 - 12:00 p.m. (noon)
Tuesday: 1:00 - 4:00 p.m.
Wednesday: 10:00 - 12:00 p.m. (noon)
Thursday: 5:00 - 8:00 p.m.

Volunteers are needed for any or all of the times listed above.
Minimum of 1 month; 8 hours per week required.

Minimum Age Requirement:19 years old

Head Start Child Development Center Office Assistant

Description: Center Operations Manager Assistant

Skills & Qualifications: Clerical skills, data entry, computer skills, phone, child care, and creative abilities. Individual must possess a hospitable attitude, be patient and courteous. Must be sensitive to, and have the ability to work with people of different cultures, nationalities, and religions.

Responsibilities include: Assist Center Operations Manager with daily tasks including filing, typing documentation, maintain supplies, helping with the enrollment process, putting together enrollment packets, help in classrooms, helping at the front desk by answering phone calls and greeting parents.

Time Details: Must commit 10 - 25 hours a week between
Monday - Friday 7:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m.

Minimum Age Requirement: 19 years old

Head Start Research and Data Volunteer

Description: Research and Data Clerk

Skills & Qualifications: Clerical skills, data entry, computer skills, editing / proofreading, researching and report writing. Prefer community planning, research methodology students; advanced undergraduate or graduate student. Must be sensitive to and have the ability to work with people of different cultures, nationalities, and religions.

Responsibilities include: Conduct necessary research and data collection for community assessment annual report including but not limited to: demographics, services resources and identified community needs. Design and concduct internal and external perception surveys. Data analysis, report composition, community planning, research methodology.

Time Details: Must commit to 8 hours minimum, approximately 200 hours in a semester. Office hours are Monday - Friday 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Position will begin in February 2011

Minimum Age Requirement: 18 years old

Landlord Tenant Program Assistant

Description: Responsible for providing education, information and mediation to tenants and ladnlords to understand their rights and responsibilities and promote safe, stable, rental housing.

Skills & Qualifications: Good people and customer service skills, computer skills, education / teaching conflict resolution skills would be helpful. Must be sensitive to, and have the ability to work with people of different cultures, nationalities, and religions.

Responsibilities include: Provide information and education materials to tenants, landlords, and community members on rights and responsibilities. Mediate issues between landlords and tenants, and provide referrals to community partners.

Time Details: Minimum of a three month commitment. minimum of 2-4 hours per week after training. Office hours are Monday - Friday 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

Training: will be provided.

Minimum Age Requirement: 19 years old
